Webinar: Assessing and Responding to Health Information Needs

On December 4, 2013 from 12 – 1 pm EDT, the Global Health Knowledge Collaborative held a webinar focused on health information needs assessments and their use in planning knowledge management (KM) programs. “Assessing and Responding to Health Information Needs” was part of a series of lunchtime webinars held by GHKC.

This webinar introduced the concept of a health information needs assessment and provided illustrative examples from a variety of international settings. Participants were presented with tools and examples that can guide them as they plan similar assessments in their own projects.

Sarah Harlan, Program Officer with the Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project at the Center for Communication Programs, presented an overview of needs assessments, recommended useful tools and methodologies, and discussed the reasons for doing these exercises before implementing KM activities.

Peter Hobby, Director of Knowledge Exchange for Management Sciences for Health’s (MSH) Center for Pharmaceutical Management, shared an experience conducting a needs assessment in Ghana for the USAID Mission, and will discussed tips and suggestions for conducting these activities in other settings.
